Knypersley 18-12-11

Took a trip to Doxey to take some pic's in the snow !!
Waste of time, snow less, damp, dark and looking worse, quick turn around and back to Knype ( should have listened to Trace in the first place )
It ended up a nice sunny day and we got loads of photo's of the normal stuff,, Robin's, Tit's, Finch's and Nuthatches just a few are here and more on the main site,  Tracey has a load posted on her Picasa Page its got Steve's name on but they are NOT his photo's.

Not a very nice morning, stood with Steve and watched Brambling's but didn't get a proper shot.

Branston Water park

I have made 2 trips here in the last couple of months and really do find it a pleasant place to be.
The variety of walking,  ranging from flat paths around the main lake to Public foot paths across fields and through woods, makes for an interesting time.
A diverse range of wild life is to be found, from the Coots and Swans on the lake, Kingfishers and tufted ducks on the fishing pool the other side of the canal to the numerous smaller bird species in the hedgerows and woods.

This Robin posed for ages.
I am leaving it until we get some colder weather and a bit of frost before the next visit.

Formark Res

Just as most of the local waters,  this one finds itself low on water.

We walked all the way down the left hand bank and at the bottom just before Carver rocks ( SSSI ) were the biggest Coots I have ever seen,  the amount of food must be massive they look more like Turkeys in size,  these were the prominent bird on the day, there were plenty of Mallards and a few Swans and Gulls  but not much else.
We may have been a bit early and will have to re-visit in a few weeks.

The woods around Carver Rocks are the most impressive I have ever seen for Toadstools and Fungi,  if this is your interest get over here.

These are just an example of the ones we found on the day,  Tracey must have taken dozens,  some of which you will find posted on Steve's Picasa site.
Do not be fooled all of the photo's on this site are taken by Tracey. not Steve.

RSPB. Middleton lakes.

Went to have a look at this newly developed site just past Drayton Manor Prk on Sunday.

As is normal for these places you need radar to find them,  out of Tamworth follow the signs for Drayton Manor and carry on past the park, the signs for Middleton hall are the first thing you see but it says nothing about the RSPB, I think you can get in here but if you carry on down the road you come to a sign on the left for Broomley Croft children's Frm, turn here and follow the signs carefully, they take you through the old quarry buildings and yard and in the end to a good car park

It is very new in places but has lots of potential, a good couple of hours can be spent walking around so as to get a feel of the place because it is bigger than you first think. Wetland, Marsh, Meadow, Woodland and river bank are in plenty.
I will follow this visit with another visit soon and let you know how I get on..

Only got this picture of a cormorant but saw Great spotted woodpecker and lots of wildfowl .

Tamworth Castle

Re-enactment of the Vikings and Mercians having a row somewhere a few years ago.

Ford Green to Holden Bridge

Earlier at Knypersley on the top pond a  Southern Hawker was laying,  these pictures  were taken at the same time as Steve took the ones on the Knype blog.  Many thanks for allowing  me the chance to get them as he was there before Tracey and myself.
